Think outside the box this Mothers Day
UK Mother’s day is just around the corner, and we’ve been talking in the Massage Me office about what treats we’d like to receive ourselves, as well as what we will be doing with our lovely mums this year.
We know 2021’s celebrations will be a little different from previous years, whilst we are all a little restricted on where we can go and what we can do. For Valentines, we came up with some more ‘remote’/digital ideas. Check out that post for more ideas.
Today, here are some top tips from us - and something different from the usual flowers and chocolates!
A Unique Gift Box
There is a great company called Don’t Buy Her Flowers, set up after founder Steph had her first baby. She was inundated with beautiful bouquets and wondered why people give new mums another thing to care for when they’re doing more caring than they’ve ever done in their life. At Don’t Buy Her Flowers, they ‘do’ thoughtful gifting. They want the person receiving one of our packages to feel loved and cared for and know that someone has thought about them by choosing a gift package that is just right. You build the box with book options, magazine subscriptions, snacks, clothing… you can make something really unique.
These have been super popular during lockdown times, so check out her pages to see if they work for the lady in your life.
An hour of self-care with Massage Me
When you are out in the alps, book your mum some time with the alpine massage specialists for the ultimate holiday gift. With a range of options from relaxing holistic, sports massage for skiers, and beauty treatments and pregnancy massage for mums to be. Choose our My Massage option and let her choose her perfect treat at the time.
Or, if you are the mum, then self-care is the key! Why not book something lovely for yourself? Our top tip? Book something for the kids as well; 1 hour of massage for you PLUS 1 hour of peace whilst they have a massage. Perfect.
Have a quality afternoon or evening together
Why not close the curtains, stoke up the chalet fire, get cosy on the sofa, and enjoy a good old catch-up with no distractions. Perhaps even enjoy a glass of vin chaud to really enjoy the atmosphere.
Perhaps for a slightly different twist, you can also pick some super family or mum-friendly films. Think things like Mamma Mia, Freaky Friday or Steel Magnolias .. all dependant on whether you want to laugh or cry!
This year, you might not be able to visit in person, but you can still enjoy the evening “digitally”. If you cannot visit mum in person, you could still both choose to enjoy the same meal - even cooking together via zoom. They relax and enjoy watching the same film together - apart!
Enjoy a night out together.
This might be something to put on hold for this March. However, there is nothing wrong with getting something booked in for later in the spring/summer. One of the most enjoyable things you could do with your mum is to take her out and make her feel special. Perhaps a lovely alpine lunch in the sun, or dinner for 2 in her favourite place. Or is there something special your mum has always wanted to do but would never treat herself to? Maybe it’s a trip to the ballet? Or a helicopter ride? Or a Tough Mudder event? Or a regular yoga class? Whatever it is, then why not get involved with your mum and book yourselves both in. Plus, if it’s a weekly event or class, then you get to have that scheduled time to catch up on one another.
Give her some time off!
If you have a new mum in your life (or even the long-time mums!), whether it’s a friend, your mum or your partner, then chances are she’d love some “me time”. So head over. Take lunch or dinner and a bottle of fizz (there are some excellent non-alcoholic options now) and offer that mum some time out. Maybe she wants a loooooooong shower, a luxurious bath, a walk in the park. Whatever it is, she has carte blanche to do what she wants whilst you enjoy some baby cuddles!
Again, this might now work so well for 2021, so think outside the box a little. Perhaps delivering some lovely home-cooked meals to the doorstep or offering to walk the dog or take on some chores for the new mum in your life would really help them out.
Make a photo album
Throwback 15 or 20 years ago, and photos would be developed, eagerly awaited and enjoyed, then stuck down into photo albums to enjoy. In the digital ages, this doesn’t happen anymore. So why not create a photo album for your mum? It can be photos of anything, you and your mum, childhood, your travels, her grandkids… If you don’t have a lot of time or money, then you can always create a digital album on your device and share it with your family that way. Our family loves this as you can also set to music and play as a slide show.
So there you go, some ideas from the Massage Me mums. Wishing you all a fab mothers day this year! If you’re still looking for some gift ideas, check out our Valentines day blog and Christmas one too.
